A true country retreat
The place
Château Ribagnac sits in the Limousin, north of Limoges, surrounded by open countryside. We pulled in on our way back south, taken with the setting. The château was built in 1647 and has been carefully renovated by the current owners. They run chambres d'hôtes in the château itself and gîtes close by. The pool is welcome after a long day's driving. There is also a lake, where children can fish.
On the owners' advice we booked in for dinner, which they cook in-house. The table d'hôtes is reason enough to stop. To the warmth of the welcome, add local food and a thoughtful selection of regional wines and aperitifs. The cooking was very good. Château Ribagnac is a true country retreat.
