The place
Brasserie Garland sits in the Pays de Cocagne and makes organic, farmhouse beers under the Karland label. The ingredients are local and unprocessed: certified organic cereals, water from the Montagne Noire, and a process they manage end to end, from the hop garden through to the malting. Their website has the full detail. The beers are neither filtered nor pasteurised.
It all began in 1994 in Annick and Christian's farmhouse kitchen. Their daughters have since joined them, and the operation has stayed a family one. The barley and hops are grown on the farm, and the brewing kit lives in an eco-built barn. Four organic farmhouse beers come out of it. The brewery is also a sociable, festive place: every September it hosts an annual beer and music festival. Come and meet them, and taste what they make, in the Pays de Cocagne.
