Frequently asked questions

These are the questions we are asked most, grouped by theme so you can find what you need quickly. If yours is not here, write to us. We reply to every message, and that is also how this page grows. For the detail of our editorial method, see our charter.
About Épicurieux
What exactly is Épicurieux?
Épicurieux is an editorial directory of craft places in France: where to stay, where to eat, where to drink, and what to discover. We write the listings ourselves after visiting. There is no transaction on the site, no booking and no purchase: we introduce the place, you contact the craftsperson directly.
Who is behind the site?
Two friends who, after the 2020 lockdown, began compiling the good places they had found while travelling around France. The project became Épicurieux. The full story is on the About page.
What geographic area do you cover?
Mainland France for now. We cover the regions gradually, as we travel, with a stronger density where we have spent more time. If a region looks under-represented, write to us: that is often how we fill the gaps.
Is it free for readers?
Yes, entirely. No account to create, no paywall, no premium version. You read, you note the place, you contact the craftsperson. That's it.
About the selection
How do you choose the places?
One criterion: the place must have left a personal mark on us during a visit, or have been recommended to us by a trusted source and then checked by us on the ground. Our editorial charter sets this out plainly.
Are you paid by the places you list?
No, never. No place pays to get on Épicurieux, to stay on it, or to rank higher. No subscription, no premium tier, no priority fee. That is our ground rule.
Do you receive products or invitations?
We accept tastings on the spot and modest samples at the end of a visit. That is normal practice. We refuse offered overnight stays, complimentary meals, and unsolicited parcels. Any potential conflict of interest is declared openly on the listing concerned.
Can your recommendations be trusted?
That is for you to judge. We write what we have seen and tasted, in our own name, with no payment from the craftsperson. When a place changes or no longer holds the promise that drew us in, we update the listing or remove it. The consistency of our selection is the site's only asset.
For consumers
How do I suggest a place?
Through the contact form, or by email directly. Give the name of the place, what struck you, and if possible a link or a contact. We read everything, and if the place looks like a fit, we plan a visit.
How do I report an error on a listing?
Write to us through the contact form, mentioning the listing concerned and what needs correcting (opening hours, owner, quality, closure). We check and correct within a few days, or we remove the listing if necessary.
Can I buy directly on Épicurieux?
No. Épicurieux is not a shop and takes no commission. When you find a place that interests you, you contact the craftsperson directly, by phone or through their site. We stay out of the transaction.
How do I find places near me?
Use the interactive map accessible from the main menu. You can also browse the Stay, Eat, Drink and Discover categories, which are organised by region.
Is there a newsletter?
Not for now. We are thinking about it, but only if we find a format that genuinely adds something beyond the site. In the meantime, you can come back directly, or follow us if we announce a presence on other channels.
For producers and craftspeople
How do I get listed on Épicurieux?
Write to us through the contact form with a brief introduction to your business: what you do, how long you have been doing it, what sets you apart. If your place looks like a fit for our line, we plan a visit. No guarantee of publication, but your message will be read properly.
Is there a charge for producers?
No, at any stage. No entry fee, no annual subscription, no charge to appear at the top of a list. If someone offers you a rate to appear on Épicurieux, it is not us.
How long does approval take?
It depends on our travel schedule. We answer your message within a few days, but between the first contact and a published listing, allow several weeks, sometimes more, the time it takes for us to visit in person.
Can I edit my own listing?
You cannot edit directly, but you can flag any factual change to us (opening hours, contact details, team, method). We update quickly. The tone and editorial reading of the listing remain our responsibility.
Can I ask to be removed?
Yes, at any time and without reason. A simple email is enough. We remove the listing within a few days.
Technical and privacy
Do you use tracking cookies?
We keep cookies to the strict minimum needed to run the site and measure its audience anonymously. No advertising cookies, no sharing with third-party ad networks. The detail is on the Privacy policy page.
Is my contact form data shared?
No. The information sent through the contact form is only used to reply to you. It is not sold, not shared with partners, not added to a mailing list without your explicit consent.
How do I delete my data?
Write to us stating what you would like deleted (email exchanges, listing, contact details). We carry out the deletion within a few days and we confirm by return.
What's next?
Do you plan to extend Épicurieux abroad?
Not in the short term. France already has many more places than we can cover, and we prefer to dig into a territory we know rather than scatter our visits. If the idea evolves, it will be announced clearly.
Will there be a mobile app?
Not planned. The site is designed to work properly on a phone, and the interactive map can be used straight from the browser. If a real need emerges, we will revisit.
How can I support Épicurieux if I want to?
The best way is to visit the places you find here, and to mention Épicurieux to the craftsperson when you go. You can also tell us about places, share the site with people around you, or write to us when something changes. There is no donation button or paid subscription.
